Changing of the Guard at York Volleyball Club

After a 21-year reign long standing Chairman Tim Godson (front left) has stepped away from the role, handing the reins to Stewart Miller (back second from right).

Stewart currently plays for the York Lions and coaches the York Pumas in the Yorkshire Championships. He has been an active member of the club for many years and last year took up the role of Vice-Chair before stepping up to the main Chair role after the end of season AGM this June.

Alongside being Chairman Tim has been coaching at York Volleyball Club for 16 years. Originally coaching the women's premier team then changing to help bring players into the game. Tim worked with other coaches to set up a junior section in 2009, increasing the number of women's teams from one to three over recent years and coaching the Men’s Division 1 team.

Highlights include coaching the women to the Premier League title, helping a brand new women's team win the Yorkshire Shield and seeing our juniors playing in the Club's National League teams and for England junior teams.

He will be sorely missed at the top of the club by all of its members but he believes he is handing the club over to a safe pair of hands:

"I have spent 21 years as Chairman of York VC and seen some amazing expansion. From the start with only three teams to seven teams in competitive leagues, plus juniors. I have worked with Stewart coaching the juniors for 11 years so I am happy he can take over and bring in some new ideas. I would like to give thanks to all the volunteers who have made it easy and I sure everyone will get behind Stewart to make new things happen - but don't worry... I’m not going too far!”

Thank you Tim! and a warm welcome to Stewart!

Stewart commented: “I’d like to thank Tim for his many years of hard work in making York VC the club it is today (and more than a little relieved that he is remaining involved with the club!). York VC runs entirely on the passion for volleyball of our volunteers and players and Tim has always been an inspiration to members, myself included. I am confident that the club will continue to thrive and am looking forward to the challenges ahead”.
